Subject: Richard and his cancer recovery period. The emotional response to the cancer.
Body of work : A multi-disciplinary body of work consisting of sketches of visual language and text experiments and explorations. Photographic ideas, grids and graphs from diary and technological contact. Photographs of progression and decline if appropriate. Diary of events. sculptures made from related materials, or found or safe authorized disused hospital materials.
Logging the trips to the hospital with a map of dates, and treatments. Photographs of the mask. Short films.
Style: Formal scientific approach with clinical schematic diagrams and evidence with informal spontaneous emotional expression. Fluid style. Abstract, fragments.
Visual tone: Nostalgic, sentimental, existential. Thought provoking.
Materials: Wax, petri dishes, graphs, chairs, acetate, resin, acrylic paints and clinical items. Video camera. Diary throughout treatment. Appropriate medicines or containers and X-rays. Digital photography.
Influences: The hospital environment, families response to cancer. Process of recovery for patient and close family.
Method: Sculptures, photographic processes ( cyanotype), installation, film. Time schedule and review progress. Multiple layering. Artists book. Photoshop manipulation.
Final location : Hospital oncology waiting room, college main foyer or studios.
