This is a photo of the mask Richard had to wear during Radiotherapy treatment. I have placed the teeth he had to have taken out, behind the mask. Richard had to have these out, in order for him to proceed with the treatments.

2nd - 6th February 09

Has the College been closed this week because of the snow?

This week in Devon I have been getting to know the final cut express film software, experimenting with ideas and techniques.

Like the short film on my blog.

The snow has been really bad down here and has caused lots of delays at the hospital and driving.

I am currently reading a book called " The uses of Enchantment" by Bruno Bettelheim. It is about the importance of fairy tales and how they help to make one cope with baffling emotions. This is connected to my essay on Louise Bourgeois and possibly some of the contents to my short film.

Richard is now half way through his treatment now.

Liquid salt - short film.

This is a film I am currently working on. It is about being stirred by a devastating emotional cyclone, where normal life is helplessly suspended yet weighed down by an unfamiliar and unwelcome world of the aggressive medical condition its treatment and emotional effects. With a glimmer of hope and recovery to come.

My specialist area

My step father has Adenosquamous (T2NO) Cell Carcinoma of the right tonsil.
This specialist studio practice will be my response to this family trauma.
I intend to focus on ways to alleviate anxieties, promote no regrets and own sense of worth, to lessen the fear of death and evoke a sense of thoughtfulness and appreciation of who we are as individuals. To promote the perfectly imperfect, incorporating enchantment to fears and anxieties within cancer treatments and the process of recovery. I recognize a particular interest in the emotions of Fear verses Confidence, Anxiety verses Tranquility,
Isolation verses Unity, which have run through my work with no closure.
